What is the Chore service?
It is a community based program that matches workers with Seniors in their own neighborhoods. Workers provide services such as lawn care, routine house cleaning, and snow shoveling that help older residents maintain their independence and remain in their homes.
Who can participate?
Persons 60 years of age or older who live in the following neighborhoods of St. Paul: North End/South , Como Park, Downtown, Hamline-Midway, St. Anthony Park, Merriam Park, West Side, North End, Summit -University, Thomas Dale/Frogtown, and West 7th.
Payment for services
Seniors contribute according to their ability to pay. Limited funds are available to help low income Seniors.
Chore Services include
Seasonal Outdoor Work: clean/change storm windows, rake leaves, trim shrubs, clean gutters
Indoor Heavy Cleaning: wash walls, clean basements, spring cleaning, help pack to move
Yard Work: lawn mowing, weed removal, snow removal
Routine Indoor Housekeeping: vacuum, clean floors, clean kitchen/bathroom, laundry
What we don't do
No food preparation, personal care of mobility assistance is provided.
Who are the workers
They are people of all ages who live in the neighborhood and have expressed an interest in providing services. Many of the workers are young people and the program provides them the opportunity to gain work experience, earn money and provide a much needed servcie to the Seniors in their neighborhood. Interaction between generations is an important bonus of this program.

How are we funded?
NW St. Paul Chore Service is funded in part by the Older American's Act grant through the Metropolitan Area Agency on Aging along with support from the City of St. Paul.

PARTICIPANT (Client/Senior) Any resident who registers with the Neighborhood Senior Chore Service to seek chore service is a participant. Participants must be older adults (seniors) who are 60 years of age or above or disabled.
SENIOR Any person who is 60 years of age or above as defined for this chore service. In other social services it may be 65 years of age or older and other programs 55.
COORDINATOR The employee of St. Anthony Park Community Council who manages and coordinates the Neighborhood Senior Chore Service. The Neighborhood Senior Chore Service coordinator provides assistance and on-going support to independent contractors (workers) and participants (seniors).
CHORE SERVICE The Neighborhood Senior Chore Service is a chore service program. This means that we provide assistance to older adults (seniors) in the form of household chores and minor home repairs. Chore Service enables older adults to continue to live independently in their own homes.
CHORE SERVICE AREA The defined area of neighborhoods that our funding was awarded to provide chore services. The Neighborhood Senior Chore Service provides chore services for the following neighborhoods: North End, Como, Hamline-Midway, St. Anthony Park, and Merriam Park (Districts 6, 10, 11, 12, & 13)
ST. ANTHONY PARK COMMUNITY COUNCIL (District 12) The Neighborhood Senior Chore Service is a program of the St. Anthony Park Community Council (SAPCC). SAPCC is the grassroots voice of the St. Anthony Park neighborhood. St. Anthony Park community Council has a Board that represents the
JOBS RECORDS (Time Sheets) Jobs records enable contractors, participants and the coordinator to keep track of the number of service and social hours provided. Time sheets are to be turned in monthly by both contractors and participants. They are necessary so that hours can be reported to funding sources and the program can be maintained.
SUBSIDY The Neighborhood Senior Chore Service subsidy program provides low-income participants with financial assistance. All participants seeking subsidy must be pre-approved by the coordinator. It is suggested that the program can provide $2 subsidy for each hour of service provided. Funds are limited.
INDEPENDENT CONTRACTOR (Worker) All Neighborhood Senior Chore Service “workers†are independent contractors. This means that contractors manage their own services and are not employees of the Neighborhood Senior Chore Service, but are referred through the Neighborhood Senior Chore Service.
