Projects
The revamping of the communications plan was started this summer through a grant from the St. Anthony Park Community Foundation and has allowed us to redesign and increase distribution our Networker and plan improvements to our website. The committee will be building from these trial improvements to create sustainable changes to our community outreach methods.
The revitalization of our block clubs will be an interesting endeavor that will challenge the way our organization and the city look at effective organizing. Although other neighborhoods have been extremely effective in using block clubs to connect neighbors and deter crime, the question remains whether this is the best system for St. Anthony Park. It is important that we adopt the best practices that have worked for some of our most successful blocks in the neighborhood, regardless to whether they are officially part of the block club system. The Committee will review city resource materials, funding mechanisms, and examine the best ways to support and build from the existing social networks that exist in St. Anthony Park.
The neighborhood is growing with four substantial new multi-family projects. in addition to the occasional for-sale sign that keep bringing new faces to our block. We all know how hard it is to find the local grocery, library, or bookstore in a new neighborhood, nevertheless finding a good excuse to meet your new neighbors. The Committee will be working with realtors, developers, and landlords to find the best way to integrate our new neighbors and give them access to all the best St. Anthony Park has to offer.
These great projects are just the tip of the iceberg for our committee. They also focus on learning about citizen participation and seeking new ways to honor the stand out citizens in our neighborhood. Joining us for this good work is a great way to give back, while simultaneously developing your own skills as a neighbor, a communicator, and an organizer.
